Hello, I'm John Mendelsohn, and I have the privilege of serving as
President of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Strengthening the special partnership we have with you and your
patients continues to be a primary priority of our faculty and
staff. We appreciate your trust as we all work together to
improve the quality of care for your patients and their families.
This new Guide for Referring Physicians is designed to assist you
and your patients in accessing our comprehensive services. It
includes information about approximately 700 clinical oncologists,
medical specialists in supporting fields and other faculty
caregivers. They're listed according to the multidisciplinary
care centers in which they evaluate and treat patients, and by
clinical specialty departments. There is also an alphabetical
list of faculty with summaries of their training, credentials and
clinical interests. A separate section describes other
programs and services available to physicians as well as patients.
M. D. Anderson’s Internet site
www.mdanderson.org has been enhanced to expedite the referral
process for you and your patients. There's a dedicated link to
enable you to communicate quickly with our Office of Physician
Relations. This office recently initiated our bimonthly online
CancerPro
newsletter, which provides the latest information about clinical
trials, research and patient care advances, as well as continuing
medical education programs.
Currently, M. D. Anderson has 850 active clinical trials to evaluate
new and emerging therapies for most forms of cancer.
In addition, we provide many clinical trials to a national network
of community oncology centers to enable more patients to participate
in promising clinical studies closer to where they live.
Based
on the success of the Web-based myMDAnderson service that
allows patients to query medical professionals in their primary care
centers, a companion myMDAnderson for physicians has been
developed to improve status reporting on the continuing care of your
patients.
We hope this additional online tool will help us communicate more
effectively with you.
Please share your
thoughts on how we can serve you and your patients better by
completing a periodic Referring Physician Satisfaction Survey or by
contacting the staff in the Office of Physician Relations.
We look forward
to hearing from you.
Sincerely
John Mendelsohn, MD
President
